Medical
Facilities
The school has an infirmary manned by two nursing
sisters and a nursing orderly and has 24 beds. A panel of doctors
are consultants to the school and visit at least three times a
week. A dentist, orthodontist and ophthalmologist are also on the
panel and each conducts an annual check for the entire school,
followed by clinic visits as and when required. For emergencies
the school has access to the three large government hospitals and
Indus, a private nursing home. For non emergency but serious cases
a super specialty multi discipline hospital called 'Fortis', the
famous PGI of Chandigarh and the Chandigarh Government Medical
College and Hospital are almost exactly three hours away. A record
of the boys' health, in and out patient treatment, medication,
special diet and vaccinations etc are meticulously kept. Every
year the parents are expected to update the school records with
regard to medical information as may be relevant.
Although Shimla has a water problem the school
water management system ensures that every student and staff on
campus has adequate water for personal hygiene, bathing etc. There
are large, 12,000 litre capacity, diesel boilers which heat up
enough water for all boys to bathe at least once a day. Most
dormitories have fixed bath times and these are usually in the
morning and evening. Two Dhobis who live on campus see to the
cleanliness of the boys' clothes. The boys are given a fresh set
of clothes three times a week and change their underwear and socks
daily. Their bed linen is sent to the wash every week. A school
barber cuts hair and each dormitory has a fixed day and time for
this. Drinking water comes through a separate central water
purification plant setup and maintained by the French Company
DEGREMONT. This ensures WHO drinking standards, monitored by lab
tests twice a day.
